Jackie and Andy King met at the New England Culinary Institute, after which they moved to Portland, ME to pursue their careers in baking. After training at the Standard Baking Co., they decided to move to the North Shore of Massachusetts to try their hand at the bakery business. A&J King Artisan Bakers opened in June of 2006. They have two children, Emaline and Elliot, and a rotating cast of animals living with them. In 2013, they authored their first book, Baking by Hand, and finally got to take a real vacation (unrelated to the book). Whoo-hoo!
Our bakers – We ask a lot of our bakers. Some of them have to get up at 2 am, some of them have to stay until midnight. They scoop hundreds of cookies and rolls hundreds of croissants, they work in front of 450 degree ovens, and they sweep the never-ending settling of flour on the bakery floor. They also produce some of the best breads and pastries we can imagine, and we all have a pretty darn good time doing it.
